Excellence – you know the difference when you find it

Like many others I struggled for years with NHS hearing aids and the so called ‘care package’ that went with them. I became utterly frustrated and embarrassed by my inability to hear, especially in critical professional situations.

Through a trawl of the internet and judging the responses to my email enquiries I agreed to see Rob Donnan, at the York Hearing Practice in late 2019, despite it being over 30 miles from where I live.

What a good decision! Rob combines friendliness and thoroughness with professional standards, up to date technical knowledge and a steely determination to do what is best for his clients. After listening to my tale of woe and empathising, testing my hearing and asking about my lifestyle he provided hearing aids, set up for me to take away and trial without a commitment to purchase. I will confess to crying when Rob first fitted the aids and adjusted them. The difference was just amazing; I could hear clearly, and the aids were comfortable to wear!

That was five years ago and things change over time, including hearing and the various situations we find ourselves in. As far as I am concerned Rob has worked hard over those years to ensure that the tuning of my hearing aids has matched those changes. And on the couple of occasions when faults have occurred, they have been rectified quickly. Private hearing aids are a major purchase for most people but when that cost incorporates regular check-ups and responsive assistance to fine tune those aids to match your current needs, in my judgement it is money well invested.

Excellent service appears hard to find these days, or perhaps I am just difficult to please; I know I have high expectations. However, in Rob Donnan, and the York Hearing Practice Group I have found this rare commodity. So, I have no hesitation in saying, thank you Rob, and yes, I strongly recommend this audiology service as an example of excellence and professionalism.
